WOLLONGONG FC star Alfredo Estevez flies to Romania today to play in an exhibition match alongside football royalty.

Estevez has been selected in a World Stars side to play the Romanian Stars in Bucharest next Monday.

The East Timor captain was hand-picked by Portuguese international Luis Figo and Romanian legend Gica Popescu for the annual charity match, which will pit a world stars selection against Romanian stars.

Estevez will line up alongside superstars Francesco Toldo, Rui Costa, Rivaldo, Pauleta, Patrick Vieira, Raul, Hidetoshi Nakata, Clarence Seedorf, Edgar Davids, Olivier Dacourt and Maniche for the World Stars.

The match has been organised to raise funds for the Luis Figo Foundation, which aims to provide chances for underprivileged kids to play sports.

The 32-year-old was selected in the corresponding clash in 2005.

"It's a great honour to be selected again and I am really happy to be involved," Estevez said.

"It's always good to play with the great players who will be involved.

"We're also playing for a cause that means a lot."

Estevez will miss Wollongong's pivotal NSW Premier League match against Sydney Olympic at Crehan Park on Sunday, due to the call-up.

He will return to Australia on May 28.
