BUCHAREST. The US is to build a scaled-down missile defence shield in Romania by 2012 despite objections from Russia.Romania announced that it had approved a US proposal to place anti-ballistic missile interceptors on its soil, as part of a revamped shield in eastern Europe.President Traian Basescu said Romania would host "ground capabilities to intercept missiles" that would go into operation in 2015. "Romania will not host a system directed against Russia, but against other threats," he said.
